This policy explains what cookies are, how Uzimate uses them, and how you can control them. It applies to the Uzimate website and the merchant dashboard.

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work, to keep you signed in, and to give site owners information about how the site is used.

We also use similar technologies such as local storage, session storage, and pixel tags. For simplicity, we refer to all of these as “cookies” in this policy.

2. The cookies we use

We group cookies into four categories so it is clear what each one does:

  • Strictly necessary — required for the site to function. They keep you signed in, remember the contents of your dashboard, and protect against cross-site request forgery. The site cannot work without these.
  • Preference — remember your choices, such as language, theme (light/dark), and dismissed banners.
  • Analytics — help us understand which pages and features are used, so we can improve them. These cookies report aggregated, non-identifying data.
  • Marketing — measure the effectiveness of our marketing campaigns. We only set these cookies if you have given consent on first visit.

3. First-party vs. third-party cookies

First-party cookies are set by uzimate.com directly. Third-party cookies are set by services we integrate (such as analytics providers and payment processors). Third parties are bound by contract to use cookies only for the purposes we instruct.

4. How long cookies last

Some cookies are deleted as soon as you close your browser (session cookies). Others remain on your device for a set period — typically up to 13 months — so we can recognise you on return visits (persistent cookies). Authentication cookies expire much sooner so that an inactive session cannot be reused.

5. How to control cookies

You have full control over how cookies are used:

  • Cookie banner — on your first visit you can accept or reject non-essential cookies. You can change your choice at any time from the cookie banner that appears in the footer.
  • Browser settings — most browsers let you block or delete cookies. Refer to your browser’s help pages for instructions. Note that blocking strictly necessary cookies may break parts of the site.
  • Do Not Track — we honour the “Do Not Track” signal where it is technically supported.

6. Mobile app

The Uzimate mobile app does not use HTTP cookies, but it uses similar technologies — secure token storage, local databases, and push-notification identifiers — to provide an equivalent experience. The same control principles apply: you can sign out, clear app data, or revoke notification permission at any time from your device’s settings.

7. Updates to this policy

We may update this policy when our cookie usage changes or when laws change. We will refresh the “Last updated” date and, for material changes, notify you on the site or by email.
